ROC the Nook

Join us on December 3rd for ROC the Day! This year, our donations from ROC the Day will go towards The Nook, a free food security cupboard available for our youth.

What is ROC the Day?

“ROC the Day is a 24-hour, online giving extravaganza powered by United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes that takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, also known as Giving Tuesday. ROC the Day gives people in our community an opportunity to support not-for-profit organizations doing great work in the nine-county Greater Rochester area. This year, ROC the Day will take place on December 3 from midnight to 11:59 pm.” Source

Our Goal:

To fight food insecurity amongst our youth by raising funds via ROC the Day. These funds will go towards The Nook, a free food cupboard available for our youth and families.

About The Nook:

THE Nook - Food CUPBOARD

The Nook is a small food and supply cupboard at our main offices. Our young people have easy access to non-perishable foods, hygiene items, and household supplies. In conjunction with The Nook, staff and volunteers deliver education and life skills focused on nutrition, cooking and grocery shopping budgets.

To ensure The Nook is full year round, we ask friends and community businesses, churches and organizations to “Adopt a Shelf.” Each partner who wants to help is assigned a product or products to collect and donate regularly. Call (585) 473-2464 or email Luis at lzarate@centerforyouth.net to adopt a shelf.

Adopt A Shelf Today!

Who Can Help? – A family, a classroom, a team, a local business, a group of friends or any combination you can think of!

How Does it Work? – Your group chooses one of our pantry shelves to adopt. Your group collects items each month and arranges a drop off to The Center for Youth at 905 Monroe Ave. on a certain day each month.

For How Long? – Adopting a shelf is a commitment once a month for a year, providing about 20 non-perishable food items. You may end your adoption status or change the item you want to supply at any time.
