Civil Unrest – a message from The Center for Youth regarding the Daniel Prude decision

A message to our community:

As we attempt to process the information shared by the NY State Attorney General last night, we remind ourselves that for 50 years The Center for Youth has stood with youth who have faced injustice; with determination and courage, we pledge to offer another 50 years of service. Though our hearts are heavy, we hold to the promise of our beloved community.  It inspires us and motivates us, and we will stand united in our work.

For 5 decades, The Center has been committed to proactively ensuring justice for all young people so that we are not responding in the wake of tragedy. In the words of Frederick Douglass “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” This has been and continues to be our commitment, and we accept and honor our obligation to build strong youth.

We send our condolences to the family of Daniel Prude, our Center staff and our community who continue to mourn this senseless death.

Take good care. Blessings to you all.

Dr. Elaine Spaull, Executive Director
